Just when I feel like I have seen everything there is to see in the Anza Borrego Desert, I read a BLOG or catch a book entry about someplace new and exciting. This time around it was an abandoned railroad camp in the southern end of the park. The ruins are almost 100 years old and were built to support the construction of the Carrizo Gorge Railway.

It is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called 'geocaches', outdoors and then share your experiences online. Traditionally, the hidden object is a…

my ideal camping is Mack Lake in Mio, its very rustic, in the middle of the woods, a water pump, and sites to park ur unit in.
Growing up there as kids we used to follow the trails that go through the campground, we had so much fun exploring the trails, getting firewood, then going to loon lake rto swim. Bon fires grilling chicken, making fruit filled pies with pie makers, and samores.. So much family fun, I still go there, at leasst once a yr. And still 46 yrs later still have so much fun there

At 4229 feet Sombrero Peak is the highest point in the southern end of Anza Borrego Desert State Park. We have observed this impressive mountain over the years from various vantage points but never made the trek to the top. As Jerry Schaad describes it :
"Climbing Sombrero Peak is a feat attempted by relatively few people, but not because of its height (4229 feet above sea level), which is quite modest. Rather, the peak is remo

While most people were trying to escape the record high temperatures by heading to the beach, I decided to head out to Anza Borrego for the day. This trip would be solo since my claims of a fun desert adventure fell on deaf ears. Mary simply wasn't buying it. She said something about triple digit temperatures and that was that. She was right, the weather had been over 110' for the past week out in Ocotillo but that failed to dissuade me.
I dropped down into Ocotillo around noon figuri

For those that have been to Yellowstone NP, I have a question for you about bears. I have a TT and want to know in your trips have you had any problems with Bears? I am planning a trip for this coming summer and I know if a bear wants in my TT will not stop them so what have you done? Are the campgrounds outside the park any safer? I would plan to cook out side but smells do linger so I wonder what to do or plan for. Any help or ideas would be nice.
